Celebrity Analysis of Kanye West

The infamous Kanye West:   the scene stealing, loud mouth, confrontational cry baby that the media projects him to be.  His last incident was at the VMA’s where he stated that Beyonce should have won the female music video award and embarrassed Taylor Swift.  Kanye West told the former president that he didn’t care about black people.  Kanye West smashed the camera of a Paparazzi when he told him to stop taking pictures.  Does anyone remember the episode of Punk’d where he ripped the camera from a fake official who told him he couldn’t film his video and was going to take his film?  This has solidified his place in asshole history, right?  Well for me it actually made me think about the various incidents in the media and reports that I have heard about Kanye and I don’t feel the same way about the general consensus on Kanye West.  Why does Kanye West do this repeatedly over and over?  Well I have a theory and opinion.Click Here!

Kanye West has fought hard to have his voice heard.  Kanye west in early childhood and adolescence has always wanted to be revered as someone who wanted to be heard.  Kanye's home life was rough and he lived on the Southside of Chicago.  .Kanye’s father left at a very early age so he had to mature at a faster pace than his peers.   This happens to many young men in the African-American communities and continues to be a stigma today.  Young men who are in single parent households many times feel that they have to be the “man of the house” and take care of their mothers.   This also results in a strong bond and identifying role with the mother for the child hence his dedication through the song HEY mama.  Kanye was also searching for a male role model and the men that he used to see that were living a life of perceived prosperity were the men who engaged in illegal activities such as selling drugs.  Kanye west did spend time with these men and tried to adapt their personality characteristics but what kept him from straying to far into this lifestyle were the high expectations that his mother had for his career and future.  Kanye was treading this type rope for an extended period of time in his adolescence.

When Kanye discovered his musical talent he found a way to get the lifestyle he desired, be respected in his community by his peers, and make his mother proud that he was successful.   Kanye worked very hard at producing music and garnered respect from his peers.  His mother noticed his talent and from there he went to New York to pursue his dream.  Kanye wanted to be respected for his ability to rap Kanye was talented, but his peers did not want to give him a chance because he did not fully live the lifestyle of a “thug” and felt his content wouldn’t be respected.  From adolescence to early adulthood, this pattern built years of resentment for Kanye West and he started to believe that his voice was not loud enough and that people did not respect his opinion.

 Kanye’s outburst and unusual behavior stem from abandonment, cultural influences, and perceived misrepresentation.  Kanye West is an introvert who has adopted extroverted outburst to compensate for his lack of attention that he experience in his childhood, adolescence and early adulthood.  Kanye West has resentment about his father leaving at an early age and not being respected by his peers.  Kanye has adapted his personality to have his voice heard by being over expressive during certain points of his life because he feels that he lacked attention and respect from many important individuals in his life.  What Kanye is having difficulty with is the backlash of this desired attention at inappropriate times and the negative spin that the media can induce upon and individual.

His more recent behavior regarding drinking and the Taylor Swift incident, and the canceling of his tour with Lady GaGa is a combination lack of attention and not grieving the death of his mother which happened in 2007.  I have observed Kanye West to be depressed and in need of counseling.   The media agitates his current condition by giving attention to his negative behaviors. Also the media glorifies individuals who cause drama in the entertainment industry.   It forces the mal adaptive behaviors to also become a part of a persona that is developed to protect his self from being vulnerable to his insecurities of lacked attention.   Kanye also utilizes the media to project the image of confrontational because it can reach a large number of people.  The media forms ideas about people without giving a holistic understanding of an individual and Kanye understands this.  Kanye West is very sensitive individual who understands that people respect the perceived strength of being confrontational, hence the many incidents in the media.  I do have hope because Kanye is beginning as of late to recognize that he has not dealt with his personal issues and are now starting to affect his life in a negative way.  Rock on Kanye, you’re not alone just misunderstood!Click Here!
